When did you first experience Cannabis?

It’s kind of a funny story, I was 12 at the time in youth group with kids older than me, and soon it became let’s go smoke instead. I remember this immediate happiness. It was overwhelming and I was full of joy completely.

baylee-potter-quote.jpgHow long have you been a budtender and what is your favorite part?

I became a budtender because my friend is manager at the Seattle Fweedom location. Before I was managing a restaurant and I was really unhappy, and the only time I was happy at that time was when I could smoke a bowl and relax. It changed my mindset about Cannabis as medicine, whereas before it was kind of a “get messed up” situation. My absolute favorite part is helping people, I love it when a customer walks back through the door with a smile and says thanks and you have no idea how much you helped. I went to college to study natural medicine, and in that time period, realized conventional medicine isn’t my thing, but I think budtending is kind of that spot for me, that really it’s about helping people find an alternative from the normal and pharma.

What your favorite way to consume Cannabis?

I dab a lot for the most part, but there’s not anything about Cannabis I don’t love! Edibles are a little tough for me, they are very different for me, so I don’t use them as often. Honestly, I love joints, bowls, dabs, smoking from a pipe, the ritual behind all of it is comforting for me but I dab more than I do anything else.

What are your favorite strains and products?

Oh my gosh, I love Tangie. Anyone who knows me knows I have Tangie with me all the time. I love Gold Leaf Gardens, I buy them in particular, because they are Clean Green and really care about the plant from seed to inhale. I also dab a lot of Refined Seattle, I absolutely love them and the people who stand behind the company for being advocates for standing for clean oil. I’m very focused on health, for me Cannabis is part of that, if it’s not clean I’m not interested. The companies on the forefront of that are ones I want to stay in line with.

How do you try and help customers find the right products as a budtender?

When someone walks through I have two questions to start, either how much can/do you want to spend to help find the best product in their range, and the other is generally how do you want to feel? Happy, creative, energetic, relaxed, how do you want to feel and then you go from there.

Why do you like working at your store?

I say it to all my customers, I love what Fweedom stands for, we stand for caring about customer. It’s the compassion in the company, and the empathy that we have, that makes my heart swell. I’m so grateful to work for people in that area. I love that they haven’t lost that fire to help people, to be there for people who need it.

What are your hobbies when you aren’t budtending?

I ride horses, am really big into physical fitness and I love to cook vegan. I love to cook for people — it’s like sharing weed or flower. I meditate, I like crystals. I like to Hula Hoop!

When did you first experience cannabis?

It was in 2008--I was a late-bloomer who made the decision to get high after the traumatic loss of a loved one. I was stuck in a vicious spiral of flashbacks, depression and immense anxiety. Cannabis was everything I needed it to be; I felt happiness again.  But it was more than that, I got the giggles, motion trails, the munchies and life-changing therapeutic benefits.

How long have you been a budtender, and what’s your favorite part of the job?

I’ve been a budtender a little over a year. What drives me is getting to help people alleviate chronic conditions. There’s just nothing like seeing a customer return to the store who’s found relief through one of the products we sell. Because of my own experience with loved ones who struggled with opioid addiction, I am particularly fond of seeing people reduce their reliance on opioids and other pharmaceuticals by supplementing their healthcare with Cannabis.

What’s your favorite method of consumption?

Honestly, it depends on the kind of high I’m looking for and the situation. I get more complex and nuanced highs from smoking flower (bong, pipe, joint, whatever) and that’s very valuable to me. In a group setting I prefer passing a joint or pipe of some sort - it’s akin to having a coffee break with friends.

At home, I prefer to dab since it’s quick and to the point and I can move on with my tasks quickly.

What are some of your favorite cannabis strains, effects, and terpene profiles?

I love flavorful, terpy hybrids! Namely: Diesel, Chem and Haze crosses. Headband always gives me a strong and long-lasting trippy high. Super Silver Haze is still one of my favorite sativa highs.

I actually have three favorite terpene profiles: gassy and earthy with pine, lemon and diesel; the fruity berry and lavender profile, and finally the funky cheese profile that always seems chock full of euphoria and long-lasting stress relief. Of all the fun effects Cannabis gives me, my favorites are giggles and any type of body high.

How do you find the right Cannabis for someone?

Because every customer is so unique, I find the best approach is to first find out what kind of experience they’re looking for. Most importantly, I inquire about their experience with anxiety because I want to avoid recommending strains that may trigger those dreaded symptoms of paranoia. Perhaps the most crucial guide I use is to interpret the current research findings on terpenes, cannabinoids and our endocannabinoid system as well as anecdotal evidence that will help them find the right product.

What makes Parlour’s approach different?

We pride ourselves on being question-hungry chatter boxes, always excited to chat about all things weed-related. The ultimate experience is one where you feel welcome, where you can ask any Cannabis-related question you can think of and your budtenders are genuinely excited to answer it for you, and if we don’t know we’ll look it up! We will even recommend you to other places if we think that what we have isn’t quite suited to your needs. There’s no “get your stuff and get out” vibe here--come in, grab a seat at the canna-bar, and take a load off.

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

I love to play music and my current repertoire is the guitar, ukulele, piano, flute and African and Middle Eastern hand drums. I love to be active outdoors and kayaking, white-water rafting, hiking, camping, mushroom-hunting and scuba diving. I also enjoy crafting and painting, gardening, photography, Bikram yoga, dance, hanging out at the river and some freelance modeling. Occasionally I still dress up and perform at Renaissance fairs and pirate festivals where my favorite archetype to play is the Fool.
