In Memoriam: Theresa Rene Collins

November 20, 1978 - April 21, 2017. A beloved member of our community - gone too soon. Theresa founded the wonderful smoking & hangout spot Pot Luck Events in Anchorage and was a vocal advocate, always standing up for the human right to use Cannabis. Photo by Oscar Avellaneda-Cruz.

The Alaska Cannabis community and indeed the greater community and world lost a beautiful, kind and loving pioneer in April to a rare form of cervical cancer.

Theresa was a person who glowed with love and genuine care for people, coupled with a fierce strength to stand and fight for what she believed in. It was this combination of love and strength that made her so rare, a truly special person who left her mark on countless lives in a time that was too short for everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her, and especially for her.

Theresa left her mainstream career to start Pot Luck Events and participate in the budding Cannabis industry, and became one of the most polarizing figures in the state’s attempts to limit freedoms for the plant she loved. But she never backed down, and Pot Luck served as a gathering place and support group for the entire community, she was at the center of it all. Seeing her surrounded by friends and members, laughing and sharing in community and Cannabis in a truly positive way was an incredible experience, and one that can never be taken away.

Even in the face of cancer, Theresa let her light shine bright, fighting until the very end and continuing to uplift others around her even as she battled against what ultimately took her life.

Though she is no longer with us, it is certain that she is smiling down on the community she led and an industry she helped pioneer, shining on through every smile she shared and every life she touched.
